Baby I’m a Firework…

I’m in the mood to crash someone’s Independence Day cookout this week, who’s inviting me? Is there bubbly involved and better yet, what are you going to wear?

Barbecue, fireworks, and sunshine! 4th of July Weekend is upon us, which means it’s finally time to debut that American Flag swimsuit or top you purchased on sale last year. Whenever a big holiday rolls around, we struggle to find ways to incorporate the festive colors of the occasion. For the record, I love an ironic red white and blue outfit just as much as the next hopelessly nostalgic fashionista. Still, I felt compelled to take a quick trip around the web to see how some fashionable street style stars pull off wearing red, white and blue without looking like the Star-Spangled Banner.

I promised my man I wouldn’t even look at a suitcase Fourth of July weekend, but I’m dying to sneak in one more stalker trip before heading to New York City and the Hampton’s. Why not? Crazy visions of summertime stalker tales keep dancing in my head along with delicious memories of my recent visit to a mountain retreat in Idyllwild with a fashion icon. I may just have to tip-toe out, but this time with only half the clothes and twice the money so there’s room for something new in that suitcase. Can you say road-trip?

To honor today’s holiday, I’m sharing some of my favorite red, white, and blue-themed fashion editorials. With the American flag as the center of attention in each editorial, today’s the perfect day to show your spirit. Speaking of spirit…

As I sit here at my desk in Laguna Beach, sipping tea, looking out the window at a spectacle of July 4th festivities, it occurred to me how fortunate I am. My blessings are countless. However, among my greatest blessings is my freedom. This is a blessing to which I owe a great debt of gratitude to our heroes – the men and women of our armed forces. Think about how we enjoy colorful fireworks and delicious barbecue, while they are scanning the horizon for threats. While we laugh and mingle with loved ones, they’re working long hours counting on their brother or sister soldier to protect their back.

We owe an incredible debt of gratitude to the men and women of our armed forces. Thank you to all the men and women who serve this great country. Thank you for the gift of freedom.

Count your blessings, thank a veteran, fire up the barbie and eat in style baby…

Penelope, thanks for stopping by and so enjoy your blog called “Travels with Penelope”. Great restaurants, travel and inspiration.

With an Italian background, she cites her Mother and grandmother ( Mamie ) as the major influence of her love for food.  Yes, homemade pasta hung from the clothesline in the kitchen and rolling 100 meat balls for a holiday dinner was the norm.  Raised in Pennsylvania. she spent time in Atlanta, Georgia and ultimately settled along the stunning coast of Laguna Beach, Ca. Self taught in everything, she learned to appreciate the amazing flavors, scents and uses for exotic herbs and spices and applies her knowledge to cooking today. Despite enjoying other creative endeavors like painting, photography and clothing design, she realized she would never love another career the way she loves all the stories surrounding food.  And it's capturing those stories that has not only become her greatest passion but a culinary drug worth passing around!  After all, food is a shared experience and no one better to share it with than the entire world. And thus the Food Stalker was born, utilizing all that passion and her fearlessness to capture even the most impossible stories. It's one thing to write about food, but far more exciting to actually capture it and all those stories that make every scent come to life.  And once she sets out, there's no stopping her, because no one follows that scent better than her---and no telling where she'll end up next.
