Not content with having been named a CNN Hero Of The Year for his outstanding commitment to his Motel Kids project, Chef Bruno’s new goal is to help move them into permanent housing. “A Dream Come True Fundraiser” was born. Partnering with restaurant critic Sophie Gayot, the two brought together an eclectic group of Top Chefs from around the world to his Anaheim White House Restaurant to raise funds. Guests were treated to champagne, appetizers and cooking demonstrations in the restaurant’s beautiful garden followed by a fabulous five course meal. It’s been seven years since Bruno and his Mother Caterina noticed a 6-year old boy eating potato chips for dinner at The Boys & Girls Club in Anaheim. Caterina was so moved she made Bruno promise that he would feed the children. That single compassionate thought has resulted in over a quarter of a million free meals to date. He credits his Mother as his hero. She’s the one who told him to do it and now he refuses to stop. On a personal note, I was so deeply touched by the story that our family held a fundraiser at our home and Bruno was gracious enough to personally attend. We’re not talking catered food here, come on… this is The Food Stalker! All the food was made with love and nothing is more important than helping Bruno’s “Caterina’s Club” so children don’t go to bed hungry. Heartfelt thanks to Chef Bruno! Update: The event raised over $105,000.00!
